Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 170719405
Event: 03/11/1994
Worker injured when struck in abdomen by metal pole

At about 1:00 p.m. on March 11, 1994, Employee #1 was injured when a 19-foot by 6-inch metal pole hit him in the abdomen. He was helping to take down the pole. Employee #1 was elevated about 8 1/2 feet in a front-end loader bucket. From there, he wrapped a chain around the pole 2 to 3 times and hooked it to the loader's bucket. Employee #1 then slid down the pole and stood on the ground, waiting for the pole to come down. As the pole, which was cut at the bottom, descended, it slipped out of the chain sling and hit Employee #1 in the abdomen. He was taken to the hospital, where he stayed for 3 days for treatment.
