Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 170732614
Event: 03/30/1994
Employee burned in alcohol-ignited fire

At approximately 7:30 p.m. on March 30, 1994, Employee #1 was preparing to clean the Jade Range oven in the kitchen area of a Sizzler restaurant. Although vinegar is used to clean the ovens, Employee #1 picked up a bottle of isopropyl alcohol, poured some on a cleaning cloth or rag, and began to wipe the oven. Either some of the alcohol dripped onto the pilot light or the alcohol was ignited by the heat in the oven. An explosion and fire resulted. Employee #1 suffered burns to her face, arms, and legs and she was hospitalized.
