EMPLOYEE'S FINGER AMPUTATED IN CAN SEAMING MACHINE

An employee was cleaning a Panama can seaming machine used for packaging nutritional supplement tablets and capsules. She was cleaning the machine and failed to properly isolate the energy source by unplugging the machine from the wall outlet. As she was cleaning the machine, she turned the machine on and her right index finger was caught in and amputated by the can elevator mechanism. She was hospitalized.
