Employee crushes hand in foot-powered press

Employee, of Square Sheet Metal, was attempting a setup on a press. Not realizing his right hand was in the point of operation, he lowered the press with a foot-operated pedal, resulting in crushing injuries. The employee immediately used the foot pedal to raise the press off his hand. He then requested that a coworker transport him to the hospital, where he underwent surgery on his hand.
