Employee's thumb crushed when struck by machine

Employee #1 was operating a snap-on button/rivet setting machine, model #ZZ1H1, no serial number. He was placing a 1/4 in. metal snap onto the machine when it activated and crushed his thumb. Employee #1 was taken to the hospital, where he was referred to a hand specialist for treatment. The machine's point of operation was not guarded.
