Employee's toe amputated by falling channel

Employee #1 and two coworkers, of Montgomery Kone, were at a multi-employer work site, constructing a multi-story building and using a crane to stack channels into an elevator pit for storage. The two coworkers were on the open roof, approximately 110 ft from the bottom of the pit. One was rigging the channels while the other was providing communication between the crane operator and Employee #1, who was in the pit receiving the channels. The channels were of various lengths, some 10 feet or more. A channel fell, landing on Employee #1's foot and amputating his fourth left toe.
