Employee's right hand injured when caught by conveyor screw

At about 6:15 a.m. on June 7, 1993, Employee #1 of Gro-Power Inc. suffered cuts/lacerations to his 3rd and 4th fingers after his right hand struck a moving screw of a conveyor during cleaning operations. There is a screw conveyor underneath a silo on the east side of the yard, where Employee #1 attempted to clean and remove a jammed piece of urea from inside the running machine with his hand. The power supply to the machine was not turned off prior to cleaning the jam and the moving parts were not blocked against inadvertent movement. Employee #1 was not interviewed about the accident as he spoke only Spanish. Employee #1 had received power shut-off instructions but did not follow them.
