Employee's hand injured when struck against a router blade

At about 7:05 a.m. on August 25, 1993, Employee #1 of Spring Air Mattress Co. was injured while working on a router machine located in the framing department. Three fingers on Employee #1's right hand were partially amputated. He was taken to a medical clinic for treatment and was later taken to Alameda Hospital for surgery. Employee #1 was interviewed at a later date and stated that he picked up a 54-inch by 79-inch by 7-inch wood frame and put it on the table of the router machine for shaping. The jig did not move, so he pulled the frame out and tried to clear a jammed piece of wood from under the blade with his right hand. His hand contacted the moving blade. The machine was running and the power was on when the accident occurred.
