Investigation Summary
An electrician was working from a fiberglass stepladder, installing a fluorescent lighting fixture in the ceiling. He had not deenergized the 277-volt lighting circuit before he started installing the fixture. He apparently brought one of the circuit conductors into contacted with the T-bars supporting the dropped ceiling and caused an electrical fault. The ensuing electric arc burned the employee on his palms and chest. He was hospitalized in a burn center for about 2 months.
