Investigation Summary
At approximately 2:00 p.m. on July 16, 2001, Employee #1, a torch cutter with 16 years of experience was working for a scrap metal recycler cutting apart a bridge. As Employee #1 made final cuts on a bridge, the structure came down and fell on his right leg, fracturing it. Other employees were using oxygen-propane torches to cut the crossbeam supports on the railroad bridge structure when the structure fell on Employee #1. After the accident, Employee #1 was transported by ambulance to the LA County/USC Hospital.
