Event: 07/30/2001
Employee Injured When Boxes Collapse On Him

At approximately 11:00 a.m. on July 30, 2001, Employee #1, a warehouse worker, was manually pushing out rectangular boxes of aluminum curtains approximately 20 ft long by 10 inches wide and 4 inches thick, weighing approximately 65 pounds each. After he pushed out approximately half of the boxes, he came out of the sea container to switch places with another worker. While outside, he touched the stack of boxes to see if they were stable. The blind boxes were not secured with piling or other securing means. They moved in and out with his hands holding the boxes and he determined that the boxes were not stable. Then the boxes fell on top of him and knocked him to the ground. He was hospitalized with a broken right ankle, dislocated left toe, and crushed left shoulder tendon.
