Event: 09/05/1995
Employee breaks arm in nip point of conveyor

On September 5, 1995, Employee #1, a cleanup worker for Tri-Valley Growers, was at plant #1, a peach canning plant in Modesto, CA. She was using a high-pressure water hose with her right hand to clean the tail pulley for the infeed conveyor to the peeled fruit repitters, when her left arm was pulled into the nip point between the belt and the pulley. She sustained a compound fracture to her left upper arm and a broken elbow, and was hospitalized. There was a guard, but it was hanging by one stud, thereby allowing Employee #1 to reach around it.
