Event: 07/29/1997
Employee's finger amputated in meat processing machine

At 10:00 a.m. on July 29, 1997, Employee #1 was operating a Hollymatic hamburger patty machine, model 8/65, in a meat processing plant. He attempted to assist a mechanic, who was adjusting the machine during servicing. As the mechanic jogged the control, Employee #1 reached into the cylinder to clear out product. The 4 1/4 in. diameter ram caught and amputated the middle finger on his right hand as it passed by the opening in the side wall of the cylinder where the hamburger entered.
