EMPLOYEE'S HAND AMPUTATED IN SILAGE TRUCK

At approximately 3:00 p.m., on July 13, 1997, Employee #1 was prepping a silage truck on a non-work day for scheduled work the following morning. She turned on the PTO and reached into the chain and sprocket to locate and wipe the fitting. The chain was moving slowly and caught her left thumb, pinning her left arm in the metal sweep bar that rotates across the box. As she was pulling her arm out, her left hand was amputated. She was taken to Modesto Memorial Hospital and then air evacuated and admitted to Davis Medical Center.
