Employee's fingertip amputated in cabbage dicer

Employee #1, of River Ranch Fresh Foods, Los Angeles, CA, was operating a cabbage dicing machine. He was trying to feed the cabbage into the hole more quickly to keep it from jamming,. He had started to push the cabbage up into the hole with his right hand when his ring finger contacted the rotating blade, amputating the tip and the nail. At the time of the accident, Employee #1 had worked for River Ranch Fresh Foods for approximately one month. He had never before operated a dicing machine and had been trained on the job when the machine's previous operator had time to spare.
