Employee's hand injured when steel security gate falls on it

Employee #1, was closing a steel security gate at the Southern California Gas Company, Montebello, CA. He pushed the right side of the gate closed, thinking it would stop at the center of the driveway, but it continued moving forward until it passed the guide rollers. The approximately 250 lb gate become top-heavy and unstable, and it started to fall over onto Employee #1. He tried to get out of the way but his right hand became entangled in the bars. He fell with the gate, which landed on his right hand. Employee #1 was able to free his hand by lifting the corner of the gate. It was later determined that the rear steel stop plate was missing from the gate.
