Employee injured in fall from ceiling joist

At approximately 9:55 a.m. on February 2, 1996, Employee #1, a 34-year-old independent contractor and the sole owner and employee of Paul's Phone Jacks and Wiring, was installing a telephone jack at El Tapatia Supermercado. He was walking on a ceiling joist when the 2 in. by 4 in. board broke and he fell approximately 20 ft to the floor. He felt dizzy and was taken to St. Francis Hospital, where he remained under observation for 24 hours. He had sustained bruises and a concussion he is now resting at home.
