Investigation Summary
Employee #1 worked for an employer involved in the cutting and thinning brush from outdoor areas to increase the growth of remaining trees. Employee #1 was working as a piler, whose job was to pile the cut brush and trees. A small tree, less than 6 in. diameter at the butt, fell. Employee #1 and the cutter had eye and verbal contact, but Employee #1 misjudged the height of the felled tree. He was struck by the falling tree and injured. Employee #1 was not able to be interviewed. He had left California and was unavailable. Employee #1 speaks only Spanish.
