Employee's knee fractured in fall while descending ladder

Employee #1, a roofer's helper for Del Rio Roofing, was assigned to a crew repairing the flat roof of a building. The crew was using a ladder to access the 19 ft high roof. Employee #1 was descending the ladder when it shifted and he lost his balance. He fell onto the asphalt pavement, fracturing his knee cap and suffering multiple contusions. The ladder was not secured.
