Investigation Summary
AT APPROXIMATELY 10:00 A.M. ON MAY 13, 1993, EMPLOYEES #1 AND #2 OF HAGEMAN FRAMING SUSTAINED SERIOUS INDUSTRIES WHEN A WOOD-FRAMED WALL THAT THEY WERE ATTEMPTING TO LIFT INTO A VERTICAL POSITION FELL ON THEM. THE WALL, WHICH MEASURED 19 FEET 2 INCHES HIGH BY 17 FEET 6 INCHES WIDE, AND WEIGHED AT LEAST 1,400 POUNDS, WAS CONSTRUCTED FLAT ON THE FLOOR AND CONSISTED OF MULTIPLE WOOD MEMBERS OF VARIABLE SIZE. SEVEN WORKERS INCLUDING EMPLOYEES #1 AND #2 WERE ATTEMPTING TO LIFT THE WALL INTO A VERTICAL POSITION WHEN THE WALL REACHED ABOUT 40 TO 45 DEGREES OFF THE FLOOR AND THE LEVERAGE FACTOR CHANGED. THEY WERE UNABLE TO PUSH IT FURTHER OR TO HOLD IT. FIVE WORKERS JUMPED CLEAR BUT EMPLOYEES #1 AND #2 WERE PINNED BETWEEN THE WALL AND THE FLOOR.
