Employee suffers hand amputation by log splitter

On March 9, 1999, Employee #1 and a coworker were working on a personal project using their company's log splitter. Employee #1 was holding onto a log being split and failed to let go as the log was pressed by the spring mechanism. His left hand was caught between the spring and anvil of the log splitter resulting in an amputation. He was hospitalized for his injury.
