Investigation Summary
At approximately 11:10 a.m. on November 3, 2005, Employee #1, a tree trimmer, was removing a dead tree approximately 25 to 30 feet in height from the parking lot of a commercial complex. The tree had been inspected and was one of two trees designated for removal from the site. The employee attached a rope around the tree trunk and used spikes to climb the tree with the rope. He used his safety belt and lines to secure himself to the tree trunk. While cutting the top branches of the tree, the trunk snapped at a knot. The employee and the tree trunk fell approximately 12 to15 feet onto the adjacent driveway. He suffered a fractured skull and a fractured left wrist. He was hospitalized with his injuries.
