Investigation Summary
On August 18, 2003, an employee was operating a dirt compactor, an earth mover, Case Skidsteer, Model Number 1840 Uni-Loader, excavating the hillside. As he was moving very slowly and compacting, the equipment started to slide and then roll. The employee almost unbuckled his seat belt to jump out but didn't because of the warning sticker. When the compactor rolled, his body was pulled and his foot ended up being pinned against the ROPS and the ground. Then the compactor rolled back freeing his leg. The employee's right foot was seriously injured. The day of the accident, the employee was working with a coworker who was hired from the labor ready. The coworker was removing vegetation on the other side of the construction site and didn't see or hear him when the employee called out for help. The employee climbed up the hill by dragging himself up with his arms then called for help. The Employee was hospitalized and treated for bruises.
