Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 202312476
Event: 03/27/2000
Employee Injured Using Chipper

Employee #1 had trimmed some branches from a tree and was feeding them into a wood chipper. Employee #1 was wearing leather gloves at the time to protect his hands from the sharp edges of the branches. One of the branches had just gotten caught by the chipper and was being pulled in, when the branch snagged Employee #1's right glove. The force of the pull was such that Employee #1 could not break loose or get the glove off of his hand. Employee #1's arm and hand were pulled into the chipper rollers and he was able to pull over to the right side of the chipper, farthest from the chippers teeth. The chipper ripped off Employee #1's index finger and part of his glove. Employee #1 was hospitalized.
