Investigation Summary
Employee #1 of Cambridge, MD, was helping the owner of the company clear land to build a house. His assigned job was to assist the company owner and to run the chipper machine. Employee #1 was standing by the chipper machine and facing away from the owner, who was operating an International truck front end loader to push the trees over. The owner was uprooting and pushing trees over, when an 80 foot gum tree started to become uprooted. As he pushed the tree away from Employee #1, the tree trunk began to twist and fall in the direction of Employee #1. A 2 1/2 inch thick branch struck Employee # 1 in the back of his head and killed him.
