Investigation Summary
An employee was trimming trees away from a 75-kilovolt overhead power line. He had been instructed not to trim the tree he was in, and he was not tied off. The employee sustained an electric shock and was knocked out of the tree. He fell 6.1 meters to ground level and another 4.6 meters to the bottom of a sink hole. He was hospitalized with soreness and stiffness of his right shoulder that he suffered as a result of the fall. (He sustained no electrical burns.) His employer had a safety and health program; however, information was not effectively communicated to the employees.
