Investigation Summary
At approximately 3:30 p.m. on April 24, 2001, Employee #1 (the company owner) was struck and killed by a tree that he was felling. The white oak tree had a diameter of approximately 24 in. and was approximately 83 ft. long. Employee #1 did not used the proper tree harvesting or manual felling techniques which included performing an under cut and back-cut in the tree. The tree twisted, and the butt of the tree came off the stump, falling on Employee #1. The operator of a bulldozed was on-site but did not see Employee #1 get struck by the tree. Employee #1 was killed.
