Investigation Summary
On May 19, 1992, Employee #1 was engaged in the process of logging for Sky Cat Timber, Inc. Employee #1 had just taken the dropline from the Boman motorized carriage to a set of preset chokers being used to pull over a danger tree. He then went to a point 43 feet behind and to the side of the tree being pulled over. The carriage was then pulled towards the yarder, causing the skyline to be pulled laterally as well as horizontally. The turn of logs broke free under this pressure, causing slack in the skyline behind the carriage. The slack then hit a 41-foot high danger tree, located 38 feet to the left of Employee #1, causing it to fall on him. First aid and CPR were performed on him while he was being transported to the landing area. The en route helicopter and ambulance were cancelled after Employee #1 was declared dead by a deputy medical examiner on the scene.
