Investigation Nr: 170128854
Event: 08/05/1991
Employee severs leg in cherry catcher

At 8:19 a.m. on August 4, 1991, Employee #1 was walking behind the cherry catcher, picking stems and leaves out of the cherries. When the catcher reached the end of the row it began backing up to start another row while Employee #1 stood on the right side of the operator's platform, beside and to the right of the operator. Employee #1 placed her foot on the steel support across the front of the platform. Her foot slipped off and between the steel support and the wheel. The operator saw that she had slipped off the support but was unable to stop the machine before the wheel had pulled her right leg completely off at the hip.
