Event: 06/04/1994
Police officer killed when shot in abdomen

Employee #1, a police officer working undercover in the narcotics unit, was on loan to the West anticrime team and had just finished a buy/bust operation. At approximately 1:00 a.m. on June 4, 1994, he was in the West precinct doing some paperwork. He left the West precinct and headed to the South precinct to make contact with the South anticrime team. At 1:20 a.m., Employee #1 was starting to exit from the freeway when he was waved down by a male in the roadway. He made contact with four males who appeared to be occupants of a disabled blue Ford Mustang. Gunfire was exchanged, and Employee #1 was struck in the abdomen with a .22 caliber bullet. He hit the male who was firing at him in the shoulder with a .38 caliber bullet. Employee #1 got back into his vehicle and drove himself to the South precinct, approximately two miles away. Other officers found him in the parking lot and aid was called at 1:28 a.m. Employee #1 was transported to Harborview Medical Center where he died at 4:00 a.m. of extensive internal bleeding.
