Investigation Summary
A POWER LINE WORKER WAS RELOCATING A 7200-VOLT OVERHEAD POWER LINE, MOVING IT 50 FEET TO THE EAST. THE POWER LINE RELOCATION WAS CAUSED BY THE REPLACEMENT OF A BRIDGE. THE POWER LINE WORKER WAS LOWERING AN INTERNATIONAL HARVESTER AERIAL LIFT BUCKET WHEN HE OBSERVED A LOOSE BOLT ON THE CROSSARM OF A 40-FOOT-TALL UTILITY POLE. THE EMPLOYEE LOWERED THE BUCKET AND REPOSITIONED THE AERIAL LIFT TRUCK SO THAT HE COULD TIGHTEN THE BOLT. HE HAD REMOVED HIS RUBBER GLOVES AND SLEEVES ON HIS WAY DOWN AND HAD FAILED TO PUT THEM BACK ON AFTER HE MOVED THE TRUCK INTO POSITION. THE EMPLOYEE WENT UP IN THE AERIAL LIFT; AND, AS HE WAS TIGHTENING THE BOLT, HE CONTACTED AN ENERGIZED PART (PROBABLY AT THE CERAMIC INSULATOR) WITH EITHER HIS HAND OR THE KLEIN PLIERS HE WAS USING. THE POWER LINE WORKER WAS ELECTROCUTED.
