Event: 03/21/1992
Officer dies after motorcycle accident

At about 7:30 p.m. on March 21, 1992, Employee #1, a 55-year-old Major in the Marion County Sheriff Department, was traveling south on a one-way street. For some reason, he leaned or slumped to his left side. The motorcycle he was riding veered left and struck the curb on the east edge of the street. About 20 feet later, he struck a parking meter. He was thrown from the motorcycle onto the sidewalk. The motorcycle came to a stop about 50 feet away. Employee #1 was taken by ambulance to Wishard Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 8:30 p.m. The coroner's report indicated that Employee #1 died of blunt force injuries to the chest sustained during the accident.
