Investigation Summary

At 9:40 a.m. on February 24, 2016, an employee was at a maximum security psychiatric facility that houses all-male mentally ill convicts. A Psychiatric Technician (Employee #1) made a patient take his medication. The patient did not like the way the medication made him feel and was argumentative about having to take his medication and having to wait the 20 minutes in the Day Room to ensure he swallowed the medication. Employee #1 as assigned to a One-to-One observation which consists of continuously observing a patient. At approximately 9:37 pm, Employee #1 was assaulted by the patient and sustained serious head trauma and scalp lacerations. He was in the intensive care unit for three days.
