Employee injured in fall on slippery refrigerator floor

At approximately 10:15 a.m. on May 11, 1992, Employee #1, of El Pollo Loco, walked inside a walk-in refrigerator to store a salsa/meat grinder machine that weighed about 35 lb. He slipped on water on the floor and fell. Employee #1 was taken by paramedics to Greater El Monte Hospital, where he was hospitalized overnight for treatment for a broken leg. On the day of the inspection, water was seen on the floor and the surface inside the walk-in refrigerator was slippery. The employer later abated the unsafe condition by spreading mats and grills on the floor. Employee #1 was not interviewed.
