TWO EMPLOYEES BURNED WHEN EXPLOSIVES AT MOVIE SITE DETONATE

ON MAY 15, 1992, AN UNEXPECTED DETONATION OF SPECIAL EFFECTS EXPLOSIVES OCCURRED AT TOUGH BOYS PRODUCTION, INC., A PRODUCTION SITE FOR A FEATURE FILM. AT ABOUT 5:00 PM THE CREW SET UP FOR A SPECIAL EFFECTS STUNT INVOLVING A CAR CRASH WITH SUBSEQUENT EXPLOSION. THE SET-UP WAS FULLY PREPARED AND THEY WERE CLEARING THE SET FOR A "TAKE." THE EXPLOSIVES DETONATED BEFORE THE SET WAS CLEARED, SETTING EMPLOYEE #1 AND EMPLOYEE #2 ON FIRE. BOTH RECEIVED FIRST, SECOND AND THIRD DEGREE BURNS OVER THEIR BODIES. EMPLOYEE #3 SUFFERED AN ANXIETY ATTACK SHORTLY AFTERWARDS. THE CAUSE OF THE EXPLOSION IS UNKNOWN.
