Employee injured in fall from ladder

At approximately 10:00 a.m. on July 1, 1994, Employee #1 was conducting a training class for counselors at the climbing wall at Stanley Ranch, Woodcraft Rangers Site. Employee #1 climbed up the fixed ladder built into the doors on the wall to the landing (approximately 7 ft 11 in. above the ground), and proceeded to climb a second fixed ladder on the side of the wall to the top of the wall (approximately 21 ft above the ground). After tightening some holds on the wall, Employee #1 began to descend the ladder. As Employee #1 grabbed the second rung, it came loose and he fell approximately 20 ft to the ground, landing first on the landing, then falling through a single guardrail to the ground. Employee #1 sustained four broken ribs, a collapsed lung, and multiple leg and arm injuries. He was hospitalized for four days.
