Employee killed when backed over by yard tractor or mule

Employee #1, the chief engineer of a large commercial dairy, was walking diagonally across an intersection inside the dairy's facility where yard mules and tractors regularly move trailers. Employee #1 was struck by a yard mule that was backing up in an arc to turn around. The yard mule's left rear wheel went up and over the employee's back legs and onto his back, crushing and killing him. The weather condition was clear and the yard mule's brakes and mirrors were in good condition. The yard mule was reportedly not moving very fast. Employee #1 had worked for the dairy for more than 30 years and was scheduled to retire in six weeks.
