Employee's fingers amputated while cleaning machine

At approximately 3:30 p.m. on April 23, 1997, Employee #1 was cleaning a large knead line that was composed of several modules of rolls and conveyors. One roll module was energized, and its rolls were rotating in the opposite direction, away from his hand. The towel wrapped around Employee #1's hand became caught by the rolls and his hand was dragged into the nip point. The index and middle fingers on his left hand were amputated.
