Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 170181218
Event: 02/28/1992
Employee bruised when pinned between lift and flatbed truck

At about 5:55 a.m. on February 8, 1992, Employee #1 was getting ready to unload a 30 in. wide Nite scissor lift from a flatbed truck. He wanted to move the lift backward but moved the lever of the portable pendant control in the wrong direction. The scissor lift moved a few inches toward him, pinning him lightly against the mesh plate on his back side. Employee #1 was taken to Presbyterian Hospital in Whittier for emergency treatment. He was treated for a minor bruise of the abdomen and the hip and released in a few hours. The employer rents scissor lifts, aerial devices, and forklift trucks. Employee #1 did not see the labels on the controller which were well marked and pushed the opposite lever by mistake.
