Employee's finger amputated by mower blade

Employee #1, of O'Connel Landscape Maintenance, was operating a push-type rotary lawn mower. He reached under the mower to remove some grass and the blade amputated his right middle finger at the first joint. He thought that he had turned the mower off and that the noise he was hearing was from other nearby mowers.
