Employee's hand amputated in corn grinder auger

At approximately 7:30 a.m. on February 20, 1992, Employee #1, of Date Palm Tortilla Factory, was cleaning a grinder that is used to grind corn to make stone ground corn tortillas. Employee #1 was using a scrubbing pad to clean the auger of the grinder when her hand became caught in the auger. The machine was running at the time of the accident. Employee #1's hand was amputated and she was hospitalized.
