ELECTRIC SHOCK - DIRECT CONTACT WITH ENERGIZED PARTS

AN ELECTRICIAN FOR A SIGN MAINTENANCE COMPANY WAS ASSIGNED TO WORK ON AN ELECTRIC, LIGHTED PYLON SIGN AT ABOUT 9:30 AM. THE ELECTRICIAN HAD ABOUT 2 YEAR'S EXPERIENCE MAINTAINING ELECTRIC SIGNS AND HAD BEEN TRAINED BY HIS EMPLOYER. THE EMPLOYEE DID NOT REPORT BACK, SO ANOTHER EMPLOYEE WAS SENT AFTER HIM AT 4:30 PM. TEN MINUTES LATER, THE COWORKER FOUND THE ELECTRICIAN INSIDE THE LARGE ELECTRIC SIGN. THE ELECTRICIAN HAD DRIED BLOOD AROUND HIS LEFT EAR, AND HIS LEFT SLEEVE AND UPPER ARM WERE BURNED. THE ELECTRICIAN SHOWED NO SIGNS OF LIFE. RESCUE SERVICES RETRIEVED THE EMPLOYEE'S BODY. THE CORONER'S REPORT LISTED THE CAUSE OF DEATH AS CARDIAC ARREST FROM ELECTROCUTION.
