Employee fractures ankles in fall from recycling bin

At approximately 4:20 p.m. on July 20, 1991, Employee #1 was inside a recycling bin helping a customer carry a box of recyclable material. The space to stand between the weighing scale and the work table was barely 16 in. wide. Employee #1 lost her balance due to the limited amount of space, and fell 9 in. from the floor of the bin onto the asphalt. She landed on her feet, fracturing both ankles. Employee #1 was admitted to Romana Valley Hospital and discharged on July 27, 1991. The employer was cited for a general violation of T8CCR 3272(b). Employee #1 was working by herself and had 3 years of experience as an attendant with this employer.
