Investigation Nr: 170161319
Event: 01/19/1991
Employee injured in 13 ft fall through skylight

At approximately 1:00 p.m. on January 19, 1991, Employee #1, an electrician and foreman, had completed supervising the wiring of an exhaust fan. He was walking near a skylight dome when he was distracted by a coworker and fell 13 ft through the skylight to the floor. He suffered a concussion, a blood clot in his forehead, and an injured right eye. The coworker ran to assist Employee #1 and called security on a nearby emergency telephone. First aid was provided until the building emergency response team chief arrived in approximately 3 minutes later with a trauma kit. Paramedics arrived in another 20 minutes and Employee #1 was transported to a local hospital. At the time this report was written, Employee #1 remained comatose, although responsive to family voices through hand and eye movements. He may lose vision in his injured eye.
