Investigation Summary
Employee #1, a painter and foreman, and a coworker, also a painter, were on a roof-mounted, power-suspended scaffold, painting a multi-story building in Walnut Creek. According to Employee #1, the rope slipped through the motor unit, causing one side to drop. Employee #1 fell 30 ft to the ground and sustained a serious compound fracture to his right leg. The coworker climbed the rigging to the roof above. Neither employee was using fall protection equipment as required.
