Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 170166722
Event: 04/23/1991
Employee's fingers severely lacerated in portable saw

At approximately 7:30 a.m. on April 23, 1991, Employee #1 was using a portable circular hand saw to cut an approximately 4 in. wide by 4 ft long piece of wood into 2 ft strips. As he was cutting the wood, it was suddenly pulled into the saw, then kicked back into Employee #1's stomach. He realized that his thumb and middle finger had been cut, and that his index finger had been cut almost all the way through, leaving the tip dangling from the rest of his finger. The portable hand saw had a floating guard on top; there was no guard covering the bottom half of the blade.
