Investigation Summary
At approximately 12:30 p.m. on August 28, 1991, Employee #1, the manager of the establishment, was slicing lettuce on a Hobart slicing machine. Employee #1 placed his right thumb over the top of the guard. When he pushed the handle to slice the lettuce, his thumb contacted the blade and was partially amputated. The machine has a proper guard. Employee #1 was experienced and knew how to operate the equipment safely. No violation of the safety or health regulations contributed to the accident.
