Investigation Summary
At the Buttonwillow Ginning Company facility in Buttonwillow, CA, Employee #1 was a ginner helper whose duties included cleaning accumulated lint from the Lummus 66 lint cleaner when necessary, frequently three to four times a day. The saw on this machine takes approximately five minutes to stop after the power has been disconnected. Employee #1 was not aware that the saw was still turning when he began to clean the machine. When he reached into the machine, his right hand contacted the saw and four fingers were amputated.
