Investigation Nr: 170202477
Event: 07/15/1990
Employee's hand crushed in pattern press

On July 15, 1990, Employee #1, age 18, was using a pattern press to cut a sheet of plastic peel-off stickers. The stickers were not centered with the die, and Employee #1 was reaching through or around the bar guard to remove them when the press closed, crushing his hand. The bar guard was the type that raised up to throw the operator's hands out of the way when the press closed. The guard was raised at least 5 in. at the top and covered the entire 29 in. width of the press.
