Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 170196869
Event: 08/11/1990
Employee's leg burned by hot conveyor drum

At approximately 1:45 p.m. on August 11, 1990, Employee #1, an assistant drum operator, was working on drum line #2 when she stepped off the work platform onto a set of conveyor rollers, apparently to retrieve a dropped vacuum hose. She had already activated the release button, so the drum was moving toward the inverter. Employee #1 apparently slipped, and her foot became caught in the rollers. Her left leg was pinched and burned between the inverter frame and the hot drum. It took several minutes for the line to be stopped and her leg to be freed. She was transported to the hospital, treated, and released. Employee #1 was re-admitted to the hospital on August 12, 1990, for skin grafts.
